I do stuff like narrations, telephone prompts, etc semi-professionally (not my full time job but brings in some beer money!) but I do character / cartoon / 'proper acting' stuff amateurly (is that a word???) All good fun though :-)

Dunno if you still need help, but with your first demo: record some of your favorite lines from anime/cartoons/movies/books, etc. and remember to put in your range of voices. We all start from scratch.

Or you can just relax, worry about the demo later, and audition for all the great projects on the board. Once you have a few completed projects under your belt, you can slap together a pretty nifty little demo. :)

Heya VA fans? coming to Amecon? Then stop by Anime dub live! our voice acting workshop. Even if you can't make it we need your help!

Heya everyone,
The sun is shining I am panicking, it is time for me to ask for clips for my annual Amecon panel. What I am most in need of are clips with just SFX and BGM for the live dubbing segments, this year I am planning it as more of a workshop/ fun and games session so the emphasis will be on practical stuff so I need looooots of clips. Clips with just BGM and SFX can be of any genre.

If you have completed clips with voices in you want me to show off I'll take those as well, though with no guarantee I'll be able to use them. For completed clips comedy and parody material goes down the best. i.e comedic clips from anime or more serious anime which has a parody dub. For example Naruto and DBZ abridged

In summary:
- I need clips with just BGM and SFX no voices any genre of anime or anime con appropriate stuff ( j-drama, japanese games etc)
- Completed anime dub clips with voices any type but with a preference for comedy/parody.

Please contact me at aralechan@gmail.com
Deadline for this is August 1st
If you are coming to Amecon I hope you can make it.
Thanks all
For the curious here's the panel description:
Anime dub live
Interactive fan voice acting workshop. Ever thought about voice acting as a hobby or even as a career? Join us for fun and games as you grab some friends form your own “ dubbing studio” , and then watch it become a global success or epic failure. Then do battle in the live parody dub.
You could just watch, but where’s the fun in that?

My preference for demos is to have something that sounds like extracts from different things you have been in. SO if you have been cast in a few finished works ask the producers permission to use clips ( making sure you credit them).
If not then as DigitalBrute advised listen to the demos of others for inspiration. You can use scripts from plays, games anime etc as inspiration.
I'd also make sure it is no longer than a minute.

I use an Alesis that I got as part of a podcasting kit for £75. Is good quality, but it's a USB and it's really fiddly trying to get the computer to play sound through the speakers and record through the mic at the same time! Only way I can do it is to have mic unplugged, record the sound into Audacity, save, close, plug in mic, open file and go from there. Bit of a nightmare really, but can't complain for quality / price!

Defiantly not a headset. If you want to spend about £20 see if you can get a Logitech USB microphone. I use a Samson CO1U which about £55, and is decent for the price. Otherwise read this:

Hmmmmm, seems I need to go mik shopping aswell, seeing as my only mik is built in with my webcam, that quality wouldn't be too good ... lol, what do you suggest stand-alone or a headset???

Be careful if you need to yell if using a headset because typically it comes out very muffled, and you get a lot of mic puffs.

Heya probably should mark that a spoiler neh? XD
Wow I have to say Lioncourt and Masako really went all out didn't they They did a great job with the yelling considering they are on home equipment! On the mixing side it really worked well, shouting is always hard but you worked well with it. For some reason I was obsessed with how well timed that fan was ^^
